Subscribing to document changes?

Is there an easy way for users to "subscribe" to documents in order to be notified via e-mail upon changes to the selected document(s)?

I'm not seeing a way exposed in the Share UI, but an interested user passed me this link: http://docs.alfresco.com/4.1/concepts/adminconsole-email-notification-list.html which makes it look like it *might* be possible (although, in there it's not clear on how handle the events or if there's any simple way to restrict them to specific documents).

the notificiation emails are about changes to any document in a site that you are a member of and potentially changes performed by users that you follow (subscriptions). There is no way in standard Alfresco to subscribe only to changes made on an individual document. That is one reason why we developed a commercial notification addon which allows users to subscribe to individual folder hierarchies or individual documents while also providing user choice about which events they want to be notified about (e.g. all changes or just specific versioning events).
