SubProcess representation

I have seen lots of discussion topics (many are outdated) around collapsible subprocesses, but I do not see a way to collapse a subprocess in Designer or Modeler. The documentation says it is supported, but it is not obvious in the latest version (5.16), can you advise? Our current product always shows the subprocess as collapsed at design time, but the user can drill down and a new tab opens. The explorer pane displays the entire hierarchy regardless of which tab is selected. Have there been any feature requests for something similar?

Collapsing an expanded subprocess is indeed not supported. Jumping to a references process, however, is indeed supported.

The explorer pane displays the entire hierarchy regardless of which tab is selected.
Can you clarify this?

I assume you mean an external process definition via call activity when you say "jumping to a referenced process." Our current product treats an embedded process as collapsed and drills down when it is double-clicked. We have some fairly complex nested templates and they do not migrate well to Activiti as "expanded" subprocesses.

Are there any plans to support a multi-pane editor approach to nested subprocesses?

In fact, we noticed that our migrated templates are imported without positional (BPMDI) information, but not if they contain subprocesses. If embedded subprocesses were supported as a separate diagram, they could leverage the same "initial layout estimation" logic that is currently being used by single level processes.

When I say the explorer pane displays the entire hierarchy regardless of which tab is displayed, it is similar to what is displayed in Designer when you expand the items in the process tree, but there is a separate diagram pane (tab) for each level.

How do I attach images for reference to a forum post?

Lori, perhaps use a free images-sharing tool somewhere online, the forum is quite strict with uploads, I'm afraid…

Opened Jira issue http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/ACT-2106 and provided proposal document. My colleague will be meeting with you at the US conference next week. Feel free to discuss further with him.
