Site Structure, users and role granularity.

Hi guys,

I am hoping to setup Alfresco in a way that supports multiple users and multiple roles with granularity.  We have a number of projects and under those projects are various sub projects.  Each of those sub projects could have another sub folder that could be associated with a user.  We want that user to be only able to add and list files that have been submitted.

However, some users might be able to see multiple folders.  We want a nice simple file structure that makes it easy for the "data-getters" to go in and get what they need, yet others cannot.

Project 1    Project2   Project 3

Does Alfresco allow something similar to what I describe?

Thanks,

Ron

Yes it does.

You really need to think and plan ahead of time and structure your groups properly. When you login to alfresco as the admin you will get the group management functions. It has taken several iterations of my configuration, but using nested groups I have a structure that is similar to what you describe.

I have a set of projects with subfolders. I have "employees" and "contractors" and each has different rights within the projects and folders. So I created a top organization group, then within that departments, and within that a group for the employees and agroup for the contractors in that department.

The next step is to create a template space and assign rights to the groups there. Now you can use that template when creating new projects and things are easier for project creators.

I found using a tool like FreeMind to map out the configuration extremely helpful instead of jumping in and creating stuff in alfresco.
