Share Reporting

Hi,

We need to implement a reporting feature in Share with the following metrics.
a) NoSmiley Surprisedf login / access to a site
b) How many people access a particular folder in document library (to know popular folders/documents)
c) Document Views/Previews
d) Document downloads (the actual download by clicking on download button)

This is mainly to track how well our site is being used.

We evaluated some of the available add-ons for reporting, but they do not really seem to be capturing all of the above. Will Alfresco's Audit service track all of the above? The Audit dashlet add-on seem to be handling few of them but I believe its meant for a Developer and not for an end user.

Any thoughts/ideas on this is appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

the Audit Service would be the foundation of any reporting, but it does not solve your concerns without some specific configuration and user interface you would need to implement. The Audit dashlet is just a simple view of the Audit data being collected - it is neither aimed at developers nor end users and should be considered a demonstration / administrative view only.

Using the Audit Service you have to keep in mind that any operation on the Repository services triggers an audit event - you would have to distinguish between primary events (user accessing a site) and secondary / tertiary events (user accessing a document, which causes some functionality to access the site as well, but what should not be counted as a user access to that site). Also consider that - since you want to track read access - the Audit functionatliy is invoked on every operation, impacting the performance of the system as a whole (how much depends on the complexity of configuration and implementation of value extraction).

Axel

hi all,

i am new to alfresco. we have been using knowledgetree for years but they have stopped supporting community version, so we are trying to look for alternative and found alfresco. however, some of the features we need is not out of the box, and need high technical knowledge to implement.

our requirements:
1) audit trail / log (like the one in the 1st post)
2) granular folder / file permission (add, edit, delete)
3) optional - some group can only access sub-folder but not root folder. (currently can set this but there are no way to view the sub-folder.)

can someone please help and advise us?

thank you very much.
