SessionTimeout ? TransactionSystemException

I have had now two times the following error, while trying out the new UI.

I get the following exception :

The problem happens reproducibly for me like this :

  1 Log into the new UI and do something, e.g. design a new process
  2 Stay logged in, I put my laptop to sleep and try to continue next morning
  3 next action on the Web UI triggers above exception.


I can not login or logout again, all I see is the exception above.
When I open a new incognito window, without sending the auth cookie, I get to the login page, but when I try to log in using the correct credentials I get :

After I restart the application server, everything works fine again.
Looks like a session timeout related issue to me.

I have deployed 'activiti-6.0.0.Beta2' into 'wildfly-9.0.2.Final'.

That's very odd. Does it only happen when you put your laptop to sleep or did you experience it too when just clicking around?
I wonder if wildfly does some magic to the connection pool/transactions here …

no I only experienced this after I put the Laptop to sleep, for lets say 8 - 16h.

Yes, maybe wildfly does something special here.
What I can do is test this with tomcat the next night.

Okay - I have tested this with tomcat and I can reproduce the same exception after a night of inactivity …
I tried apache-tomcat-7.0.67

I'm using the H2 in memory db for this configured with :

I looked into the source (CustomPersistentRememberMeServices.java) and I guess the problem is, that the method surrounding the code throwing the exception is marked as transactional :

Then like you say I guess something happens with the connection and an exception is thrown which causes the App servers Transaction manager to throw the TransactionException.

The question is what is the original exception. I can't find it in the logs - somehow it seems to not be populated / logged by the Transaction Manager.
I'll try to debug it more and take a look at it when I get the time …

thanks, this is some very good debugging already! I'm kinda in the dark what it could be … it could be a connection pooling thing (maybe it needs more connection validity checks?). Keep us posted with what you find!
