I would like to be able to give a user/group full coordinator access to a particular space but restrict the user from deleting the space itself.  That is:

I have space:

rootspaceA
     subspaceB‍‍‍

I then give a group full coordinator access to subspaceB but  I do not want them to be able to delete subspaceB itself though, just manage everything under it.  How would I do this?  It appears if I give coordinator access to subspaceB, it gives the group access to delete subspaceB itself.

I'm sure I'm just not being creative enough in my permissions

You could try giving the group the Collaborator role instead of coordinator, the Collaborator role combines the Editor and Contributor roles.
