search result limit via php

Hello,

Could someone tell me what would be the easiest way to modify the query function in php so that I could put a limit to the ammount of results a query returns and that I could choose to sort the results via cm_modified or cm_created?

Janko, did you find a solution?  It seems in Java you can set the limit directly- not sure if that is helpful or not.
