RSS formats supported by the RSS Dashlet

Hi all,

I was about to configure the RSS Dashlet with a custom RSS feed from German Website "Heise Online". But it looks like neither of the different RSS formats they offer is accepted by the RSS Dashlet - it always says "No news items".

I have tested this on my own installation of Alfresco 3 Stable (Windows) and share.alfresco.com as well. Same result.

I have tested these two feeds:
Atom 1.0 http://www.heise.de/newsticker/heise-atom.xml
RSS 0.9.0 http://www.heise.de/newsticker/heise.rdf

Is there any known limitation of the RSS Dashlet with regards to supported RSS formats?

The RSS dashlet is quite hard-coded at the moment to only support RSS - which unfortunately you don't have there (RDF is similar, but doesn't have the channel element for starters).

You could probably source your feed through YAHOO Pipes and subscribe to the pipe's RSS output instead.

We'll be improving this dashlet in the future, but probably not in this half of the year.

Thanks,
Mike

i have trouble with the RSS feeder as well. it doesn't always work with feeds.
I tried Yahoo Pipes and subscribed to the following URL:

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_id=UlgRkM8n3hG4LJwnwjSbTQ&_render=rss#

It did not work. It did not give an error, but clicking OK on the configuration screen of the RSS feed, makes it think for a a second then come back to the same screen.
is this a bug?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, Mike. I'll give it a try.

I'm disappointed that even the RSS feeds from these Alfresco Forums do not appear to be well supported in Community 3.2 Share. All the html mark-ups appear in the feed entries inside the dashlet, rendering them virtually unreadable.

As noted previously in this thread, many other site feeds remain unsupported but I guess these things take time.

I am also having a problem with the RSS dashlet.  Under Labs 3 Stable, the RSS finally worked with the google news feed that we had been trying to use.  Now under 3.2, the news is there but the reader does not seem to parse the markup codes.  I tried a cnn rss feed as well and I could get some text there but eventually each article became a mess of markup codes.

Has something been changed?

No, sorry we've not had the time we'd have liked to refactor the RSS dashlet, so it's probably a slight change on the Google feed. It could just be that the dashlet is a bit too fragile right now and doesn't like one of the feed entries.
