What is the relation between "contentstore.deleted" inside alf_data and "Manage Deleted Items" on web console. When I delete any file/folder in the application, they appear in "Manage Delete Items" but not under "contentstore.deleted". The "protectDays" property is set to 14 in "content-services-context.xml".

After content has been orphaned for a while its moved to contentstore.deleted.

While the deleted item is being "managed" its not orphaned.

Thanks mrogers. Can you explain in detail the concept of orphaned content? When does a content get orphaned and how to orphan a content?

content is orphaned after there are no more nodes linking to it.   So typically its after the trashcan is cleared.
