I have a requirement where I need to provide a highly restricted view of content to end user such that the user can not :

- download the document / save to client machine
- copy text & paste from the displayed document
- perform a print screen to take a image of the displayed information in the document [Or the image copied after print screen doesn't show the actual information displayed but masks it]

How to achieve this using Alfresco ?
If this is achievable will it be via Alfresco Explorer , Share or custom application ? I know there is a content viewer in Alfresco Share but even there one gets download option & can do a print screen.

Thanks,
Viral

I don't think what you are looking for is possible in any software system, alfresco included.   And is really difficult for a web browser based application.

What is normally done with this type of requirement is to provide physical security for the browsing machine(s) for example by removing the USB/DVD/Floppy drives and not connecting any printers or other network resources outside of a secure lan.    And not allowing cameras into the room.   And tempest screening etc, etc…

If you are still thinking about a software solution.
Yes you may be able to do some browser tricks like fiddling with a print stylesheet or turning off some browser functionality however that would be easily bypassed.

The best you could do is to write your own client for alfresco that somehow prevents all the operating system provided facilities for copying and pasting etc.  Perhaps it replaces the entire O.S.

Anyone else out there got other ideas?

Yes. You can find details of our solution in the Alfresco showcase: http://www.alfresco.com/partners/showca … data-room/.

- download the document / save to client machine

Done

- copy text & paste from the displayed document

They can not copy text in Flash or downloaded PDF.

- perform a print screen to take a image of the displayed information in the document [Or the image copied after print screen doesn't show the actual information displayed but masks it]

You can't stop someone from printing the screen as Mark suggests. However, you can discourage them from doing so by embedding their details in the document when viewed.
