Proper way to customize

I have been directly updating source files for a long time now in Alfresco due to lack of time for doing things right.  Challenge is I have to keep redoing this every build.  With the latest build want to incorporate my changes by extending objects, not directly changing them.  Wondering with Share how to do this.  Some of the files I directly modify are:

Properties files like mobile.properties
FTL files like profile.get.html.ftl
Java files like SlingshotUserFactory.java
XML files like contentModel.xml
JS files like collaboration-title.get.js
I also like to replace all the favicon.ico files with a custom one in all projects and update the manuals with custom ones for our implementation.

Hopefully someone can provide me some guideance or some real examples how to extend these and where to do it in the project.

Thanks.

Start in Alfresco Forge. Find a projects for Share and/or Alfresco customisation. Download the source. They'll have build files which build and extend Alfresco. Just use them to deploy your changes. Alternatively, take a look at Alfresco build scripts.

Hey thread stealer.  What does this have to do with my paricular question on customizing?  And let's not say you are "customizing" because you are replacing a graphic.  Learn how to post and create your own thread next time.

Hi, best way is to get inspiration from SDK BasicAMPSample, and to throw a look at wiki articles :

http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Packaging_And_Deploying_Extensions
http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/AMP_Files

Hope this helps
