Problem at Starting (Connecting – new installation)

Hello,

I'm fresh here and never used any of these programs. After downloading Alfresco-Community-3.2r2 I installed it on Windows 7 following the instructions on the PDF installation file. All went well until points 14 and 15, the starting links. The problem is very simple: it just doesn't start – "Firefox gives this notice:  Unable to connect. Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:8080.   *The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments."

I don't think this notice will be right. It must be something else because I made the installation two days ago and could never connect since then, tried lots of times always getting the same Ffx notice.

I'm not completely computer dumb, but I have no idea how this works because I've never used or even seen it before. Totally blank. I'd be very grateful if someone would enlighten me, please.

This window keept adding lines for some time.

It seems it did start now, even if I am a zero with this program that I do not know at all and I have forgotten all about the old pre-Windows time. Windows has only one thing that is really convenient, but made me adopt it: we find lots more of programs for the system that are lacking with other systems. Must be very careful not making any change at all.

Weird that this file is refering to ~dp0alfresco.bat. Is there an alfresco.bat? Whats in the alfresco.bat the alf_start.bat refers to?

I fail to understand whatever happened, but it seems it is working now because after I tried the link I have been talking about since the beginning and it displayed a log in window in the browser. Then I clicked the Alfresco Explorer on the start menu and it also displayed.

I notided a line on the MySql window saying "Database was not shut down normally!" Is there a special way to close the database?

Well, I think that with your guidance it started working. Than you very much. I have only a question, if you please. There is plenty enough documentation on configuration, but as a beginner I would appreciate and need some guidance on using the program itself. Is there any documentation that I could use, but have not found?

Yes, Alfresco is starting OK now. Congratulations. Could it be that you shut down the black windows popping up when you started alfresco? The first windoww your describe is the mysqld process, the second is tomcat. If you would have closed the mysqld window, Tomcat/alfresco would complain about not being able to connect to the database, like the message you had. It's normal that Tomcat need 1 to 1,5 minutes to start. Only after the log/tomcat window is telling you "INFO: Server startup in 545490 ms" and there were no errors, Alfresco is started ok and you can start using it.

Try this for a start on documentation. There also should be a manual in PDF online.

I couldn't tell you what happened exactly. only of one thing I'm sure: I almost always change things to suite my personal preferences, but here I didn't touch anythingt because I don't know yet and am afraid to mees all up.

Thank you for the link KB. I've seen now that there is a demonstration on the application, and also found the help page of this link which is what I was looking for. I think maybe I don't need any more help, at least for the moment.

            I am fresh to Alfresco. I am facing some problems while trying to start the server. Tom cat gives an error "11:27:47,537  ERROR [repo.admin.ConfigurationChecker] Ensure that the 'dir.root'

I could not find any dir.root.

MySQL has started and I have checked for the process.

Actually I installed Alfresco 3.3 community edition with the guidelines pdf. Then I unzipped the alfresco-community-sdk3.3.zip. The folder structure has changed. I guess this is the reason for the error but I don't how to proceed.

Kindly help me on this regard. Thanks in advance

So you have an issue with directory structure, or an issue with SQL? Call me daft, but I'm not sure what your problem is mate.

I was also getting the 8080 error, I restarted the whole system and it seemed to work for me.
