A beta test of the new forums platform is now available for testing and feedback. The URL is:
http://forumsbeta.alfresco.com

Please DO NOT make any edits you want to keep. This data will be wiped out before we go live.

All local language forums have been merged into a single forum. If you had an account in multiple local language forums, here is the logic we used to merge them:

1. Accounts with the same username and email address have been merged.

2. Accounts with the same username and different email addresses were not merged. The first username that was migrated won. Subsequent accounts with the same username but different email addresses were renamed. If you own both we can manually merge those.

3. Accounts with different usernames but same email addresses were not merged. One of your accounts may not work. We can manually merge these accounts if you tell us which username you want to keep.

If you are a victim of case 2, you may want to change your email address in the current forums to match across all of your accounts. Do this BEFORE the production merge (see timeline, below).

In the beta test system, edit your profile and set the "languages spoken" setting to change which posts you see. For example, if you select "English" and "German" you'll see posts written in both languages.

Timeline

We would like everyone who is interested in testing and providing feedback to do so before December 21. Assuming all critical issues are resolved we will go live with the new system on January 2.

How to report issues

This is a beta system–you will find issues. Please report issues by replying to this thread. The team will convert issues to Jiras as needed. If you are an Alfresco employee, create an issue under the "Business Apps Development" project, "Forums" component.

Thanks ahead of time for helping us test out the new forums!

Looks good so far.

I18n / actions in local language-context appear problematic in that
- messages / labels are not completely translated (e.g. in German, several of the major navigation points like "Report abuse", "Active Topics", "Unanswered topics", "New and updated…" are in English)
- "unanswered topics" / "new and updated…" views list topics from foreign-language forums
- filter drop-down "Show topics in…" lists forum areas of foreign-language forums

I like the code highlighting, but the line height of the filler lines (for the <br /> tag) could probably be up to 50 % smaller. Snippets will quickly become too long to view without scrolling otherwise.

I haven't found a direct link to my profile configuration except on pages where my user name would appear (e.g. as "current visitor" or "last updated"). With the added control around subscriptions / feeds, this should be more accessible.
What are the "various technical reasons" why the subscription count on the overview may differ from the details? If the values are only updated / collated periodically, this should be stated to avoid questions / uncertainty.

Regards
Axel

Yes, the profile link problem is known. I had to find my name on a leaderboard before I could get to my profile. We'll fix that.

The internationalization stuff is also known, but thanks for listing out your specific issues. We're hoping to have that fixed by Monday.

The new forum looks great!  Some feedback 🙂

I've noticed a couple very minor UI issues, mostly around alignment and spacing.  See the image here:  https://www.evernote.com/shard/s3/sh/03be9917-3aa9-4e5e-ba98-1eef80602d49/7dec6a440e8829faad7626d2c1...

I'm not too fond of the "dead" space that the left column is.  It would be great if this can be hidden or collapsed when I'm "in a topic".  I prefer how this current UI maximizes the use of the window real-estate by spanning most of the width.  The space I am referring to is highlighted here:

Thanks!

Thank you for your feedback.

I hadn't noticed those specific spacing issues. We'll work to get them fixed.

We've been  discussing as a team how best to deal with the left column. On some screens it contains a number of useful tools, but on most screens it is a placeholder. That one might wait for a more thorough redesign of the site interaction.

Thank you for your time testing. Please let us know as you find other items that need addressing!

We received enough feedback on the forums to keep us busy through the holidays, but we are now ready for another go-live evaluation. We hope to migrate this month.

Though we still have a number of fixes to implement, we are not aware of anything that would prevent immediate migration to the new forums. We believe that all translation issues are fixed in every language except for Portuguese. If you haven't checked out the new forums in a while, please do so and let us know what you think.

I must be missing the obvious. Every search I try - whether logged in or not - gives me an access denied page wth no results.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I had two user accounts in the forum with the same email id. It looks like only one account has been migrated to the new forum, hence I am not able to see any posts that I created using my other account.

Can you please help me migrate my account as most of my posts are created using that account. Please let me know whom should be contacted to provide the account details.

Thanks,
Jerry
