does alfresco installation makes any outbound connections by default? if it does could someone list them out for me or forward me where i can locate any relavant information. are these configurable in any way so that these can be blocked. anyone has any idea.

Thanks.

With the exception of the database connection, Alfresco doesn't make any outbound connections by default unless you're using the WCM functionality.  In this case the authoring instance will connect (via JMX) to the virtualisation server and when deployment is initiated the authoring instance will connect (via RMI) to whichever servers you're deploying to (see http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/WCM_Deployment_Features).

There are also some non-default configurations (eg. external authentication) where Alfresco will make outbound connections to other systems (eg. LDAP).

Cheers,
Peter
