Hello Forum!
I'am new to Alfresco. My first installation's works very fine. But I have a little problem with the OpenOffice implementation.
I use the Alfresco version 1.0.0rc1b with tomcat on a SuSE Linux 9.3 system.
When I try to start Alfresco from the shell with OpenOffice, the following error shows up:

/opt/OpenOffice.org1.1.5/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display:
Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option
or check permissions of your X-Server
(See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details)

I searched the Web and this forum for help, but I can't find any advice.
When I start Alfresco within KDE from the shell, it seams that everything is ok. But inside Alfresco I dont have any support for doc, xls or other office files.

Thanks for your help!

Hello,

Are you running a graphical interface, or a terminal/console?
Openoffice needs an X display to work, as you error indicates.
If you are running a graphical interface, you should be able to set the display. Read the man page for information on how to do that.

If you are just running a terminal/console, you will have to run openoffice in a 'headless' configuration.
There is a utility called 'xvfb' (X virtual frame buffer) that emulates an X display on a terminal/console that will allow Openoffice to work.
Look here for some instructions to get it to work:
