Open documents with SharePoint protocol?

So I have installed support for SharePoint and it works pretty well, as far as opening documents from Word (File > Open and then I use the URL of my Alfresco instance).

But this is not really what I'm looking for: in SharePoint, you can click a document in the library and it opens that document in Word with the Shared Workspace panel on the right, showing connected users and other information. When this pane is present, it automatically saves the changes back to the library, no need to re-upload the document. It's very convenient and direct.

In Alfresco, when I click a document, it opens Word but no link seems to be established with the library, as the Shared Workspace pane is not present. This is confirmed when manually opening the pane (Tools > Shared Workspace…), no information is displayed in there. I've tested opening documents both in Alfresco Explorer and Share, and both have the same issue.

Is this expected, or is this an issue on my part?

Thank you.

It should work when you use the "Edit Online" option in Share - only present if you have the SharePoint module installed and are using an MSIE browser.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for your reply, I'm glad there is an option somewhere. However, while all indicates that the SharePoint module is working for me (I can open documents from Alfresco with File > Open in Word), the Edit Online option is nowhere to be found. I assume it would be sitting next to the Edit Offline option which I have. Is there any additional configuration needed?

Support in the Share Document Library was added on 9th Jan, so you need to make sure you've got a build newer than that. Load up http://localhost:8080/share/components/documentlibrary/documentlist.js (adjusted for your server) and check about 3 or 4 pages down for "onlineEditMimetypes".

The conditions for displaying the action are: SharePoint module installed, Mimetype if Office 2003/2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint only) and browser is MSIE. So you also need to check your uploaded documents have been assigned the correct mimetype. Use the edit metadata page to fix it if they're wrong.

Thanks,
Mike

OK I failed to see the Edit Online option the first time, now I can see it. It was there all along. HOWEVER, it doesn't work anyway. When I click Edit Online, it opens the file as local. I checked the .js file and Word is definitely listed. I'm at a loss right now.

Anybody with information about this?

OK don't worry about it, I found that I had to modify my registry per the MS KB 870853. It works now.
