Online Editing of Microsoft Office Documents

Not applicable
For editing Microsoft Office Documents I installed the MS Office SharePoint Protocol Support according to http://docs.alfresco.com/community/topic/com.alfresco.community.doc/tasks/SharePoint-install.html. Moreover I checked, that
the directory /webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/module/org.alfresco.module.vti/context exists. I also configured the alfresco-global.properties and added vti.server.external.port and vti.server.external.host.

I used IE to access the sites, but the action "edit online" is missing at all word documents.

I can't figure out the root cause, because there isn't any useful or complete documentation about the configuration of the online-editing feature.

Why is the "edit online" missing? And whats the root cause?

Thanks in advance

Which version of MS Office you are using ?

I think that's not a problem of MS Office. Alfresco doesn't show the links to do online editing. The action "edit online" is missing.

Why?

To answer your question: I use MS Office 2010. Moreover I forgot to mention that I already changed the registry keys. But I feel confident that it is not related to the missing action at the Alfresco UI.

Thanks for your reply. I already found the mentioned posts, but they are not really related to my problem.

First link: the Windows Sharepoint Services is installed on the client. But I the action "edit online" isn't shown.

Second link: seems not related to Alfresco 4.2f, moreover the files to edit doesn't exist

Third link: is not related to Alfresco 4.2f.

I am having similar prolem with Alfresco 5.0.a. When I go for online editing, It throws few Errors which I guess meant to be for Enterprize edition.

12:03:25,071 ERROR [org.alfresco.repo.content.transform.TransformerConfigDynamicTransformers] [http-apr-8080-exec-8] Cannot create dynamic transformer transformer.complex.JodConverter.Image as sub transformers could not be found or created ("JodConverter.2Pdf|pdf|complex.PDF.Image").
12:03:25,071 ERROR [org.alfresco.repo.content.transform.TransformerConfigDynamicTransformers] [http-apr-8080-exec-8] Cannot create dynamic transformer transformer.complex.JodConverter.Pdf2swf as sub transformers could not be found or created ("JodConverter.2Pdf|pdf|Pdf2swf").

But actually when I click the online edit button, dialog box appears with message

"Convertor failed to save the file".

I don't get this, as I can see preview, which means my libraoffice is configured correctly.

please let me know if anyone found solution?

regards
Sorrel

Hi
We've also got problems with edit on line and are receiving the following. Any ideas on how to solve?

The file 'test .doc' could not be opened for online editing. One of the following plugins required to be installed in your browser.
    For Windows: Microsoft Office 2010
    For Mac OS X: SharePoint Browser Plug-in

Hi All

I have edit online working on Alfresco-5.0.a

I have the following in alfresco-global.properties

# Sharepoint protocol

#vti.server.port=7070
#vti.server.external.host=wm-vms-alf-01.fq.dn
#vti.server.external.port=${vti.server.port}

vti.server.port=7070
vti.server.protocol=https
vti.server.ssl.keystore=/appserver/alfresco-5.0.a/alf_data/keystore/ssl.keystore
vti.server.ssl.password=kT9X6oe68t
vti.server.url.path.prefix=/alfresco
vti.server.external.host=wm-vms-alf-01.fq.dn
vti.server.external.port=7070
vti.server.external.protocol=https
vti.server.external.contextPath=/alfresco

On a dev machine.

When selecting edit online, I get prompted with the usual certificate error, as I'm just using the default cert from the installation. edit online works perfectly fine when using both Firefox, and IE, unfortunately not when using chrome, just get the error could not start ms office.

So, if anybody knows how to get chrome behaving as well, please let me know 🙂
