I just installed 3.2r on CentOS 5.2. After a few missteps, I was able to get the installer to go through without any errors. I start Alfresco with 'alfresco.sh start' and the console responds with:
Using CATALINA_BASE:   /opt/Alfresco/tomcat
Using CATALINA_HOME:   /opt/Alfresco/tomcat
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/Alfresco/tomcat/temp
Using JRE_HOME:       /usr/java/latest

Going to e.g. localhost:8080/share gives a 404 error;
HTTP Status 404 -
type Status report
message description The requested resource () is not available.
Apache Tomcat/6.0.18

Going to e.g. localhost:8080/alfresco gives a long 500 error starting with;
HTTP Status 500 -
type Exception report
message
description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.
exception
javax.servlet.ServletException: org.alfresco.error.AlfrescoRuntimeException: 10110003 Unable to retrieve object: site-index of type: page

(I can supply more if needed)

Any ideas what's going on? Did I forget something obvious?

Thanks!

I think I found the solution.

http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=20361#p75516

has the answer. It was a problem with my hosts file setup and also the url or ip address I used to access the site. I'm not totally clear on why it works or why Alfresco is so finicky. I just did as I was told and it worked .. finally.
