New doctype for a site?

I have a user with a specific need for their room / site. They want to have a site for color samples for their products. So they have a site called oddly enough Color Samples. They want to upload jpegs into the sites document library and enter a description and another field of color code and one other field of texture ID. Is there a way to extend the default document type to create a new type based on the default one?  Also is there a way to tie the before mentioned attributes to that new type?  And last how do we apply that type to the document library in thei room/site only And make that the one always used there?  Any help on this would be appreciated.

Note I am on a more recent compilation of 3.2.

Thanks

JR

At the moment, this would be a reasonably-sized customization to Share.

The nearest example I can give you is the DOD5015.2 module, which does something very similar for custom DOD content types. The Document Library space is given a custom type, which is used to render DOD components (which extend the normal Share ones) by adding a prefix to the componentId within the page template.

Grab the dod5015 and dod5015-share modules from SVN and see if any of that makes sense…

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike,

I'll take a look at what's beeing done on the DOD front. From a simpler route if I just want to add attributes to the existing document container and in a less than ideal way have all sites see these attributes how would I do this?  Heard it was fairly simple in 3.2.

Thanks
