MS word document search

Hi,
  I uploaded few word document files (.doc) to the repository. I was unable to search inside MS word documents but can search any text contents. I installed tomcat bundle. Could some one throw some light on how to search contents inside MS word & pdf files. Does Alfresco index doc & pdf files automatically once we upload doc/pdf files?

Hi

Alfresco relies on Open Office to convert the Word document to text before indexing - have you installed Open Office on the server and is it configured correctly? Check the Alfresco start-up log for any errors.

Thanks for the promt response. I havent installed openoffice. Is there any document on how to integrate openoffice & alfresco?

Optional Install of OpenOffice

If you would like to have a range of document transformations available from within
Alfresco, you need to install OpenOffice.  This is entirely optional and can be
done at any point after Alfresco has been installed.

*** There are known issues with OpenOffice 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 ***

- Browse to http://download.openoffice.org
- Download the appropriate version
- OpenOffice needs to be started in a specific way to work with Alfresco:

  soffice "-accept=socket,host=localhost,port=8100;urp;StarOffice.ServiceManager" -nologo -headless‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
