Local Permissions on a Folder

4.2.0c on SLES11. I am trying to set permissions (default alfresco "roles") on a folder. I have a financials folder that i want only the people i assign to see. Maybe i am going about this the wrong way but here is what i have done:
go into the "Repository" view within Alfresco Share and navigate to the folder want to set permissions on, then manage permissions on that folder and turn off inheritance. I then click adducer/group and type in the user i want to be able to see this folder and the files inside but the only thing that is returned is "everyone group", not the username that i am typing in. This sounds somewhat like i want to do:

but again, only thing that shows up is everyone group. How do i add users to this folder?
These users were created in Alfresco Explorer. Do users replicate to Alfresco Share if created in Alfresco Explorer?

User which are created in alfresco and share both are common so that should not be a problem.
Now in the search there will be a option either you are searching for the group or user there you need to change it to user.

I can confirm this problem.  As for your response…  I don't see an option to select users or groups.  There is one "Add User/Group" button.  When pressed, the search window appears.  I type in the name of the user I want to add and like the original poster said, only the Everyone group comes up.  I'm experiencing this problem in the people search as well.  No users that I have recently added come up.  Can anyone shed any light on this problem?  I have alfresco community 4.2.c installed on CentOS 6.4.  I look forward to any comments or suggestions.  Thanks.

Can you please add the sample user/group properties and the search terms you are using to find them.
Sometimes the search goes to the DB other times to the lucene or SOLR subsystem.
It depends what search you are doing.

If you are using SOLR is your index up to date?
Can you find docs you add?

In general group selection and search special groups, like site groups, are hidden.
Normally you only want to see the groups you explicitly manage.
Some UI pages have a check box to include these hidden groups.

Users are never hidden (unless you do not have rights to see them via ACLs)
