Is there a sync API?

I am completely new to Alfresco, so apologies if the answer to this is obvious. I have played around with CMIS and looked at the REST API docs, but did not find anything specifically like a "sync" or "notification" API. What I mean is some kind of mechanism (webhooks, etc.) that would allow you to subscribe to the Activity feed and have updates be pushed to you as they happen. Is there anything like this, or would it have to be done externally?

Hello,

you can subscribe to Activity feeds (they are RSS feeds), or create rules that notify via SMTP. In CMIS there is also a Change Log feature that you can use, but that won't actively notify you.
Alfresco is generally working on a new eventing / queueing framework, but this has not been confirmed for any specific version yet.
