Is it possible to search the content of files?

I was wondering if it is possible to search for words that are inside documents?

Are there any settings that I have to change in order to allow this? Is it even possible?

Yes it is.

This is what the full text index provides.      Depending on your content type you may need to configure a content transformer.      In particular OpenOffice handles a lot of the common document formats.    There are instructions in the installation guide to get it set up.
