Hi

I have read the backup and restore article from afrescowiki. my question is, if my server do full hdd backup to other hdd everyday and then when someday I do full  hdd restore will it mess the Lucene index?

or I have to the "hot backup" first then backup the hdd?

thanks

Yes it may "mess up" the index if you backup while lucene is running.   You probably won't get a consistent copy on your backup media since the data will be changing during the time it takes to backup.     The rule of thumb is that lucene has exclusive access to its live files and nothing should interfere.

You can create a "backup index" from a running instance and that is a static snapshot.    There's a nightly job that does this so your backup HDD should have the most recent backup index.

let know if I m correct: Lucene has a nigthly job that create it's own "backup index", so if I do the full hdd backup that hdd backup should contain the actual files, actual running index, and the backup index? so theoretically if something goes wrong, after I restore the hdd, alfresco may be messed up, but I should be able to delete the mess one, and use the backup index and files to restore it to a static snapshot?

thanks

Yes.
