Installing JAVA in 'Alfresco Community Edition' VMware

I am evaluating the Alfresco Community Edition Virtual Machine (VMware)

Setup guidance was provided here: http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/325

Guidance includes setting up JAVA on the VM:

"Java: To get around redistribution limitations, you will need to go to java.sun.com and download the standard full JDK, version 1.5.0_06. If you install it to a non-default location (/usr/java), you will need to update the path of the JAVA_HOME variable in the /etc/profile and /etc/init.d/alfresco files."

Is there a command line instruction that I would issue (as root) within the VM? Is there a test that I can perform to verify that JAVA was installed correctly? I have tried pointing my web browser at the host machine, however, I think JAVA installation must be performed first.


Any constructive hints, suggestions, are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
this appliance is more then old. It contains Alfresco 1.2.1. The current Version is 2.1 or 2.9 if you like.
So, please don't use this version for evaluation!

Hi,
there is another vm: http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/1109
I haven't tried it but it sounds better then the other one.
