Installing Alfresco on RHEL/CentOS 6

I'm working on installing a test Alfresco on CentOS 6 for a future deployment on RHEL6 and have been expressly told that if it isn't installed via RPM, I'm looking at the application getting wiped if we ever have to update RHEL/CentOS.  Another thing to take into consideration is that the document library and configuration files will be transferred over from our old server as well.

So, any good suggestions?

Is what I'm being told total bullcrap?

It wont.

About transferring, your alfresco from another machine to new machine is also , 100% possible provided you have the correct backup of the database and configuration file + the  "alf_data/" dir
