Installation of Alfresco on Mac and Linux

I currently evaluating all open source software in my organization. I have tried to install Alfresco, community version on Max OS Leopard and Snow Leopard but it was not successful. What are the components required to install alfresco on Mac OS? What are the components required to install alfresco on Linux Ubuntu.

If I would like to implement Alfresco in my organization, should I go for community or enterprise edition? What is the strengths and limitation for both? My organization is bio-pharmaceutical company which the IT department consists one person responsible for infrastructure and one person for enterprise application.

In both instances you'll need Java 6 (already installed on the Mac) plus Tomcat 6 and MySQL if using Community. About half the Alfresco developers use MacBook Pros, so we know it works well on that platform.

Dear Mike,

Thank you for email, till to date I still cant install the Alfresco in my iMac.:-(. I don't have any issues installing Sugar CRM community which I think should be identical to Alfresco. In Sugar CRM folder I found folders such PHP, Apache2, MySql and ect.

I have downloaded the following files:-

1. mysql-5.1.40-osx10.5-powerpc-64bit.dmg - downloaded & installed
2. JavaForMacOSX10.5Update1.dmg - downloded & installed

Issue:-
3. Alfresco-Community-3.2r-MacOS-X-Install - Unix Executable File - When double click this file message prompted "There is no default application specified to open the document "Alfresco-Community-3.2r-MacOS-X-Instal" -

4. Which Tomcat version should I download and from which site?

Please help.
