installation - couldn't open socket: connection refused.

Has there been a solution to this yet, that was not posted, as I am having the same issue.

Sorry for the long delay. I just came on board with Alfresco today. Had the same problem: OS X, "Couldn't open socket: connection refused" during the Database Configuration portion of the install.

What I had to do to get around this was set my MySQL root password to [BLANK] during the install.
