Hi,

i am new to aölfresco and want to install it on my ubuntu 8.04 vps server. I downloaded Alfresco-Labs-3Stable-Linux-x86-Install and use the wiki for instruction: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_Labs_3_on_Linux_with_command_line_interface

i changed the file permission with chmod. If i try to start install i see nothing, nothing happens

heinz@aljoscha:~$ Alfresco-Labs-3Stable-Linux-x86-Install

Java is installed:
java version "1.6.0_07"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_07-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 10.0-b23, mixed mode)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Heinz

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

Sorry that i forgot to mention i used   ./   before the command.

But still nothing happens if i try to install. No reaction, the cursor blinks at the console that all.

Which things on the server are necessary  to install?

Heinz

Forgive me if I ask something silly but It has happened to me before. Are you running a 64 bit distribution?. I have several computers and trying one day I forgot I was running 64 bits in that particular one.
If that is the case the installer does not return any error (at least did not to me) but it does not do anything.

make sure to add .bin to the end of the installer file

dunno why you have to do it but it will work after that

good luck

i tried all given tips, but without success.

No i downloaded the ta.gz file in order to extrasct it manualy and to see what happens.

My vps host is a 64 bit system. Does this affect the install?

thanks for your patience and assistance

I updated the instructions to make them more clear.

http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_Labs_3_on_Linux_with_command_line_interface#Install_Alfresc...

Now make it an executable file.

chmod 777 Alfresco-Labs-3b-Linux-x86-Install

Now run Alfresco-Labs-3b-Linux-x86-Install.

./Alfresco-Labs-3b-Linux-x86-Install

See how that goes for you.
BTW, if you are using ubuntu you can install java with apt-get

I'm trying to run the install on my Slice following the same instructions http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_Alfresco_Lab_3b_on_Ubuntu_8.04 but am getting the same issue of it just going to the next terminal line as if nothing happens.

Any more clues?  I've chmod 777 and have the same java distribution as mentioned on this thread.

Let me know if you need more information to diagnose.

I'm having the same issue when I attempt to install Alfresco on an x86_64 (64-bit) Fedora Core 10 box.  Executing the installer appears to do nothing…simply returns to the command line.

I found that if you install the ia32-libs that then installer will then start successfully.
