Hello everyone.
I'm a little confused about inbound email configuration…
This is my context:
- I installed Alfresco 3.4 on a server in my lan
- Usually I use gmail as email client (my email account is myemail@gmail.com)
I would like to test the ability of Alfresco to receive email content directly to specific nodes.
So:
a) I create Alfresco user USER1 (email myemail@gmail.com) and assign it as part of email contributor's group (EMAIL_CONTRIBUTORS)
b) I run Action functionality to add the Email Alias aspect and I give the USER1 node (draft_doc) an email alias "testinbox"
Questions:
1) It is sufficient to configure only the alfresco-global.properties?
1) how should I configure it ? especially email.server.domain=??????????
2) who do I send the mail (and relative attached docs) to test the Alfresco inbound functionality? I suppose to testinbox@xxxxxx, where xxxxxx = ?
Thanks in advance.

1) It is sufficient to configure only the alfresco-global.properties?
Yes. And the groups and alias as you have done.
1) how should I configure it ? especially email.server.domain=??????????
What you have done seems O.K. This parameter is badly named but is used as the hostName to bind the email service to.
2) who do I send the mail (and relative attached docs) to test the Alfresco inbound functionality? I suppose to testinbox@xxxxxx, where xxxxxx
There's two choices. Either you need to set up email forwarding rules so that gmail can sent email to testinbox@xxxxxxx where xxxxx identifies this particular email server or you use an email client to send email directly to alfresco's email server.

I'm still missing a little piece…
If I try to send an email From: myemail@gmail.com To: testinbox@xxxxxx I receive a "delivery failure" because the recipient testinbox@xxxxxx doesn't exist!
Where I'm wrong?

mrogers, in the second choise that you suggest, when I use an email client (i.e. thunderbird)
the 'to' address is = space_email_alias@gmail.com that doesn't exist!
Please, can you help me to resolve this doubt?
thank you so much!

You need some email system administrators to help with the routing of emails from gmail to xxxxx.
At minimum you are going to need an public DNS entry for xxxxx so that gmail can send email to your server.
Then that public email address needs to be forwarded to alfresco so there's probably some firewall work required as well.
