Ideas an questions about CIFS access

Hello,

I just had the following idea when trying desktop action.

Is it possible to have a virtual desktop action that will trigger when content is added to a space.

The use case is to return a url that point to a page to edit the properties of the file of folder just added, or any action when user interaction is needed.

In version 1.4 it is possible to have link to other spaces with the web-client interface. These links are not visible with CIFS. They could be shown as shortcut at least on windows.

In the roadmap, I remember seeing  plans to be able to use categories as a virtual file hierarchy when navigating the data. Is this already done, how is it enabled.

Bertrand,

wouldn't it be better if you have a proper "right button click" menu in the CIFS interface from which the user can select actions (e.g. see properties) just as in windows. Would require less interactions of the user to perform his tasks.

The thing you have to remember with the CIFS-based desktop actions is that they are effectively virtual Windows executables - so if you can imagine doing something with an executable on a newtwork drive, then you can image doing the same with desktop actions (potentailly!).

There is no client install required for desktop actions, but you would need this to get right-click integration in Windows.

You can get creative with the JavaScript/URL desktop actions, since you could launch custom Presentation Template views (no login needed if you pick up the user ticket in the script).

We didn't get time to do category-based navigation through CIFS - we will one day.

Hello,

Thank you for the aswers so far.

Do you have any idea on the specific domain of actions (desktop actions) automatically fired when a document is added with CIFS.
