Hi all,

I've made an all-in-one guide for upgrade procedure from 4.0.d (or 4.0.e) to 4.2.b on Linux boxes. Tested on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Here it is:
http://www.fossoffice.com/en/2012/10/31/alfresco-community-upgrade/
It is for postgresql/solr installations.

Help yourselves!

Nice writeup. In the step where you switch indexing you can probably set
index.subsystem.name=noindex
and not have to wait for a full lucene re-index.

Useful shortcut, I'll update the text.
Actually, I didn't wait for reindexing, as it was an index that I wouldn't make use of. But sure it makes things much cleaner in the background.
Do you thing that, after this modification, I should remove the 5 minutes gap between start/stop, or make it shorter? I've experienced delays in general during server startup (log files keep filling for a while), so I decided 5' was enough to have things sorted on an average-to-slow system. After all, we all need a cup of coffee…  🙂
Thanx for the tip!
