I´m using Alfresco 2.1RC1. According to wiki it includes the workflow history. I´v tried with a simple workflow and cannot find the history.

where shall i look to find it?

Is this feature only for complex workflows?

Is this feature only for complex workflows?

Yes, advanced workflows only.

It would be very useful to add the "traceable" or "history" aspect to alfresco.

This aspect would add the history of a document to the document itself  and would allow to automatically trace the different transitions or actions done by the users on the document. This would be very powerful addition to the simple workflow that would make then even more useful. (i.e. less necessary to use advanced workflow to trace collaborative work in a document)

Any comment?

Is it easy to implement?

If you enable the auditing features of the repository then the history of an object will effectively be built for you and the audit object is available forever for a node. The audit details for a node can be accessed from the Alfresco FreeMarker templating API so you can build custom views based upon it.

Hope this helps,

Kevin

If I understand correctly, the audit features are for a node (and presumibly for the document contained in the node) but this does not covers the case when a document is moved to another node (as is done when using a simple workflow for approve/reject actions).

There are cases (very often) when a document is accessed and modified by different actors (as is the case in a collaborative environment). In those cases it is very useful to know the past history of a document (e.g. who created it, who read, who approved/rejected it, …) and it would be very useful to map this loose workflow with a simple workflow (and add/delete new transitions by adding new folders/new rules). The only missing part is the "history".

Even there are cases in which an advanced workflow cannot be used to map such collaborative workflow. That´s why it would be very useful to have an "history/trace" aspect that collects all this activity information and can be added to individual documents. Thsi would allow to map collaborative workflows that cannot be mapped using an advanced workflow.

Any comments?

For now i miss a complete Document/Content-History, also with Workflow-Action-History. The Audit-Feature (which can be enabled=true in auditConfig.xml) for the content repository or the auditable-Aspect (which can be added as an action-Rule) doesnt show the complete workflow-History from an advanced or simple Workflow (like somebody/who has reject or approve an document) via the show_audit.ftl-Template.
But a complete History is essential for DMS/QMS.

Any Ideas for an unbroken/gapless Document-History within Alfresco?

I'm also in favour of a full workflow history of a document.

The user now has the ability to see the list of tasks he has completed*.
Yet when going to a document, he cannot see in which workflow this document has participated (tried in subversion of late august).

This may seem logical, since on a document level, the "Lifecycle" is the apropriate Content Management element.
Yet as it seams, the notion of a document  "lifecycle" is still unimplemented.

http://issues.alfresco.com/browse/AR-292

So, the participation in a "Workflow" is currently a bit of a placeholder for the document lifecycle. That's why the wf history should also be available on a document level.
