How to notify alfresco to reindex a document with lucene?

I use alfresco's web service to update a document, but after that I find the new content in the document can not be searched, it seems that alfresco don't reindex the document after the document was updated by web service, is there any explicit function can be used to notify alfresco to reindex the document in real time ?

Your document will automatically be indexed.   Perhaps there was a failure to transform the doc to plain text?

But I didn't receive any exception during my update with web service. What can I do to check this ?
