How to call alfresco's server side webscript in file site-index.jsp , Path -$tomcat\webapps\share\site-index.jsp ?

Just wanted to understand if there is ny specific reason to call a server side web script from site-index.jsp file? You could either use, any of the client side components javascript files which get loaded before navigating to the appropriate dashboards from site-index.jsp file.

I want to retrieve a value from web script by which i will be redirecting the user to the page.
In short it is the home page value of a user
