how to access database

Hello.

I would like to know if there is a way of accessing to a database.

The question is, i need to create a new table in the database, so i have to store a number in there (apart from other stuff) and after, check the last one entry. But i would like to know if there is a direct access to the database and how to do so.

I would create a different database. Changing the Alfresco database is too risky. How will you cope with further upgrades with changes in the database schema?

Create an extra database for your own developments seems like a safer choice.

Then, i create a new database, and i put my own tables in there.
But my question was about how to access that data stored in the new db.
How can i do a simply select on the database.
