How can I get the unique Id assosiated with a particular doc

Is there any way for retrieving the unique ID associated with a newly uploaded document. Kindly reply.

How have you created the document?   Which interface have you used?

I just uploaded a word document. If a document is uploaded to a particular space in Alfresco, can I retrieve its unique id and save it as one of its meta data?
