Grouping files?

I was asked the following question about keeping related files in sync:

"…is there a way to group two documents together, or to have more than one attachment per document?

I’m thinking of the case of the Visio diagrams I recently updated and modified.  I’ve been saving in both Visio and PDF formats in Alfresco, but that requires maintaining both versions separately.  It would be great if there could be a master document with additional supportive attachments.

Or if you know of a better way to save a document in both its native format and a viewable format, please pass that info along."

Thoughts?  Other than zipping/unzipping and storing the zip file (which would not be good for preview purposes), I don't have any ideas.  Anyone else come up with a workable solution?

Alfresco does actually support multiple content properties per node however it's not well supported in the user interfaces.

The "normal" way to handle this is the way we handle renditions like thumbnails.   So there is some sort of derived asset.   So in your case just version the Visio document and create the pdf on the fly.
