Fun and Joy with Alfresco 3.3g (Upgraded from 3.0.0c), solved and unsolved issues

Dear Community,

let me share some experiences with Alfresco 3.3g here.
I also hope to find solution for the still unsolved issues.

I chose 3.3g instead of 3.4c because on 2 different computers (both Windows Server 2008) Alfresco 3.4c wasnt even able start up right after installation. In 3.4c the Alfresco-console is disguised so you have to dig up the errors from the logs. So in many ways 3.4c didnt seem very attractive to approach.

Here are the solved issues for 3.3g:
o Upgrade Process: A bug(?) in the upgrade scripts leads to a successful import of the old 3.0.0c data into 3.3g, but once you shut down the server you ll never be able to bring it up again. The issues was solved by replacing the alf_data dir with the former data, since the once-run upgrade script was deleting 10-15% of the alf_data content, it is described here: http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=28560  </li>
o secondly the outbound email settings turned out to be a nightmare, because the names of the configuration variables was inconsistent thus leading to the use of default settings, which no SMTP_AUTH. XML files had to be changed to correct this issue. See the following: http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=36979

Now the still unsolved issues:
o log file always fails to be renamed around midnight to a log file with date
o only the admin can create share sites, for users the javascript popup never disappears and the site loads forever
o only the admin user can upload files to a share site, here again, for users the javascript popup never disappears and the site loads forever
o users who send out invitations from their existing sites, always receive a failure, the alfresco console shows "access denied", some invitation template could not be saved, the receivers gets the email, but cannot use the link, only the admin user can create valid invitations which work
o if the admin user (the only one who can send out share site invites) sends an invitation from the same computer, accessing Alf with localhost-url in browser, the invite will have "localhost" in the URL-Paths, thus is not accessible for the receiver, however subject of the email shows the correct site name
o if the admin user (the only one who can send out share site invites) sends an invitation from a login from another computer, accessing Alf with Internet-URL in the browser, the invite will have the correct and valid URL-Paths, thus will be accessible for the receiver, however subject of the email DOES NOT show the correct site name, just a "{0}"
o WebDAV accesses seem to slow down alf very much, ultimately leading to necessary restarts
o to copy a file to a WebDAV folder, first shows the file copying, the file is available in the Explorer, then the copy process says it cannot finish the operation and the just copied file is gone

I am grateful for any helpful hint or advise.

Tom

Hi Tom,
I tried Alfresco 3.3g, Alfresco 3.4c and now I am on Alfresco 3.4d on Windows Server 2003.

I think the latest release is very stable and I didn't find any problem during installation…

Now I have no time to analyze the whole issues you listed, but I suggest you to try the 3.4d version.

Regards
Alex
