I am not experienced person in this issue, but I will try to show a problem.

I am trying to install the alfrecso community 5.0d edition on my Ubuntu 14.04 LTS desktop edition. (do not ask me why not on the server edition).

I have downloaded from the alfresco web-site the bin file for Linux and ran it.

The progress of installation was really fine before the postgresql error which you can find below.

Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly
Error running /opt/alfresco-5.0.d/postgresql/bin/createuser -p 5432 -U postgres –no-superuser –no-createdb –no-createrole alfresco: createuser.bin: could not connect to database postgres: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "postgres"

I have checked the postges account does not has any passwords.

Any ideas welcomed.

Please help me to connect to my Alfresco I'm using Alfresco 5.0d on windows everything worked great with fresh install I was able to join alfresco with my default admin admin acc. But when I installed postgreSQL edited everything step by step like it shows on http://docs.alfresco.com/4.2/tasks/postgresql-config.html Once I Run http://127.0.0.1:8080/share/ and i try to connect with my newly created alfresco alfresco database, superuser alfresco. It says: Your authentication details have not been recognized or Alfresco may not be available at this time. Been strungling few weeks with this problem also I'm new here in this community so any help, ideas would be helpful!
Also I can't log in to my alfresco with my old default account too, says the same thing it feels like it can't find my postgresql database and I don't know why.

I'm using alfresco 5.0d and postgresql 9.3.10

My alfresco-global.properties
dir.root=/srv/alfresco/alf_data
db.name=alfresco
db.username=alfresco
db.password=alfresco
db.host=localhost
db.port=5432
db.pool.max=275
db.driver=org.postgresql.Driver
db.url=jdbcSmiley Tongueostgresql://localhost:5432/alfresco
alfresco.rmi.services.host=0.0.0.0

There are almost certainly errors in your log file - they will help you identify your problem.

It is probably one of the following
a) your database not running.  Use the pgadmin tool to check that you can connect to the alfresco database with your alfresco user.
b) missing the postgresql driver
c) your database not configured correctly, perhaps the schema has not been created, the alfresco user is missing, your alfresco user lacks permissions or a security setting preventing connection.

And are you trying to connect to Alfresco Share with admin/admin ?   what does "superuser alfresco" mean?

I can't connect to my alfresco, after I run startup.bat If i try to connect to localhost:8080/alfresco/ I get 404 error and if try to connect to ocalhost:8080/share I cant access it with admin admin it says The remote server may be unavailable or your authentication details have not been recognized.
(I want to connect with postgresql) I have created my database with pgadminIII connected and created alfresco database with user alfresco

alfresco-global.properties file:
dir.root=D:/alfresco/alf_data

db.username=alfresco
db.password=alfresco
db.name=alfresco
db.host=localhost
db.port=5432
db.pool.max=40

db.driver=org.postgresql.Driver
db.url=jdbcSmiley Tongueostgresql://localhost:5432/alfresco

ftp.enabled=true
ftp.port=1121
ftp.ipv6.enabled=false

Changed catalina.properties
shared.loader=${catalina.home}/shared/classes,${catalina.home}/shared/lib/*.jar

and I pasted jar file there - postgresql-9.0-802.jdbc4.jar

My Alfresco.log :

NeverMind the problem was with dir.root=D:/alfresco/alf_data wrong directory.

I think it needs ulimit nofile increased.

google to see how to configure:

soft nofile 4096
hard nofile 65536

Then run the installer.

I had the same issue and it worked for me.  Too bad preflight checks are not there to detect and report it before trying.
