File Share Question

Hello all, I'm very new to Alfresco, and I have a question regarding a site I am creating. Basically, there are several applications that my end users need (Adobe Reader, etc.) and I'd like to add those .EXE/.MSI files to a site I have created. I tried using the Document library, but those file types cannot be loaded. Essentially, I'd like to have it somewhere on the site that the user can click on the software they'd like to install and have it run the EXE from a share on a server, or it could be loaded directly on the Alfresco server itself. Thank you all for any assistance.

Alfresco is made for enterprise content management. Personally I wouldn't consider these installers as content, so personally I also wouldn't put them in Alfresco. However, because you can put any file in Alfresco, you could use it to store the installers…

What do you mean with cannot be loaded? I haven't tried uploading any .exe or .msi's yet, but I see no reason why it *couldn't* work. You can also upload files using webdav. I believe it's not recommended to use webdav to upload content to share sites, but I've been doing it myself without noticing any issues at all.

Use the webdav link to let a user load the file directly over webdav. Some Windows versions seem to have compatibility issues with Alfresco webdav from what I've seen on the forums, but the least you can do is try.

I'd also like to suggest WPKG, which is a package manager for Windows. If all you want is ease of software installation I think you should be looking in that direction…
