External URL Status

I realize the question has been asked before, but i was wondering if it is possible to enter a URL within Alfresco's Web Client so that it can access web resources outside of Alfresco.  This should ideally be a user function so it is dynamic and not require editing XML files.  Further, it would be nice if this could be an object that doesn't have to be included within a document.

With the addition of wcm functionality in 2.0, I was hoping this would be a feature now present within Alfresco.

Feedback?

Thanks!

You can call an external URL from an action definition. This DOES require you to edit some xml… but what exactly were you looking to do?

thanks for the reply.

I was hoping to turn over as much content population as possible to the users of our Alfresco install.  they would like to add links to video footage which is located on a streaming server.  they don't want to add these links within a document as that adds a layer which they don't want their customers to have to wade through.

i was hoping that Alfresco 2.0m as it is becomine more web-friendly would have a feature like this.

I'm not next to my Alfresco test box right now, but does the forums let you populate a clickable URL? If so, maybe you could use a forum space to get what you want???

The other option would be to create a custom aspect to hold your url, then present the aspect in a template with a link… just a thought.
