Hello

Is there available example with source code of custom dashlet for Share that is backed by Java?
I've found post or two about this subject but they never give complete how-to.
Also all the dashlets in Share Extras seem to be backed by JavaScript. (I need to provide super-simple private messaging to users, therefore I need to access db directly I guess.)

Hello,

I would also like to see a java-backed dashlet example.

I need to provide super-simple private messaging to users, therefore I need to access db directly I guess.

But regarding this, why do you need db access for that? Especially if it is super-simple?

Well, I'm newbie to customizing Alfresco and Share even more.

Where/how would you store the messages? My first idea was to store them as documents, but that way I would have to make sure somehow that they won't be searchable by other users. Which I'm not sure mere ownership solves.

Well you could just add a custom node type. Also, don't make it indexable if you want to exclude it from search. Would that do for you?

I think users might want to search their own PMs. But if I stored these (indexable) messages/documents/nodes in special folder in their home space that might do I guess. Unless I'm missing something…?

No, you are not. Permissions work great in alfresco.
