evaluating Alfresco : heavy production examples ?

Hello,

We are currently evaluating Alfresco and are impressed by the built-in functionality and API possibilities. Since we would be using Alfresco for a picture workflow, picture archiver, PDF & text archiver for quite a few newspapers we would like to know if Alfresco has already been implemented in a corporation that uses a large set of assets (+1.000.000) and serves a large set of users (+500) and how the performance is doing under that load.

Any experiences with Alfresco under those circumstances ? any feedback will do, we're really interested in this great product but need real production examples to convince our board of directors.
