Error working through Custom Actions example

I am working through the Custom Actions wiki example. I have added
private NodeService  nodeService;

public void setNodeService (NodeService nodeService)
{
     this.nodeService = nodeService;  
}

everything is still ok.

I then add the statement
if (this.nodeService.exists (actionedUponNodeRef) == true)
{
   // TODO
}

I get an error

Also, how do I read the properties of actionedUponNode Ref document?

Found the problem. I didn't add
<property name="nodeService">
   <ref bean="NodeService" />
</property>
to my action-context.xml
