Error trying to check out a document....

Hi everyone,

I have an Alfresco community 2.9B Test server in a Windows 2003 server with MySql server.

I exported some folder using the export tool from the administration console on the web Client.

I have another another alfresco 2.9b server in a centos 5.1 server, with MySql server too.

I imported the .acp file, and everything was ok.

The problem raised later, when i tried to check out an imported document (using both, the web client and the MS Office plugin).
I got the next error on the log file:

At first I thought the problem maybe was in the checking out function, but i can check out any 'non imported' file without problem.

Do you have any idea about the cause of the problem?

This problem is probably due to a known bug.

In a few words, the problem is due to copied documents keeping a reference to the original document.
If the original document is not readable because of permissions, or not imported in your case, this exeption may be thrown.

I've met this issue in many contexts, and with many different Alfresco releases.
A JIRA issue is open : http://issues.alfresco.com/browse/AR-2000. Feel free to vote for a fix.

A workaround : remove the aspect "cm:copiedfrom" on the documents causing problems.

Do it solve your issue ?

You are right!! i removed the 'copiedfrom' aspect to one of the files, and now i can check it out again.

Now my problem is that I have around 60 GBs of files with this aspect , and i need to remove it from them.

I tried to use a rule on the folder to remove the aspect copiedfrom in the new files, but it didn't work.

I also searched in the webservices api, but i hadn't found out anything.

Do you know how can i remove this aspect without doing it one by one?

You may run a script like :

     docs[i].removeAspect("cm:copiedfrom");
}

I understand that the modification date might have changed, or that rules might be triggered.

The effect was really strange.

I tried to copy some files inside some of the non-copiedfrom folders using webdav, and I always got a windows message box telling me that it wasn't possible to copy them.

Other folders were working ok.

After some tests & errors, i discover that cutting/copying the folder and pasting it to other directory everything will start working again  :mrgreen: .
I did so, and I didn't concern about the problem nevermore.
