Error during startup of alfresco 2.0 within Tomcat ...

Hi,

I have tried to get the release 2.0 running …

… but starting doesn't work in my environnement (Windows/MySQL/Java SDK 1.5/Tomcat). The former release 1.4 run very well. No problems during installation and startup …

Could someone tell me what I did wrong?

I'm in the unfortunate situation of not being able to get what other people are seeing, to happen.  One possibility, however slim it may be, is that an old tomcat instance has failed to shutdown and is holding on to RMI resources.  So one sanity check that people could make is to check for a running java process before trying to start alfresco.

This, of course, begs the question "why doesn't tomcat shutdown properly?"  To which I don't have an answer yet.  :?

An update on my end: I was able to get it to work once I disabled the Cisco VPN service.  Even if you do not have an active VPN connection, this service seems to interfere with the normal operation of RMI.  It's not clear why the Spring RMI classes are reporting "ObjID already in use" when the real issue is that the RMI clients are not able to communicate with the server, but I think discussing that further is out of scope for an alfresco forum.

Apropos of the Cisco VPN discovery, another area to check is any firewalling or VPN software running on your system.  RMI binds to to more than one port, and networking security software can sometimes block these.

We don't have any lingering Tomcat processes that could be conflicting with Alfresco on our Gentoo server when I start Alfresco and get this error. No VPN software or firewall configuration that should be conflicting with the rmi registry port usage either. Port 1099 is available when I start Tomcat with Alfresco 2.0. Yet the error persists on that box while I am good to go on another Red Hat server and on my OS X dev environment.

Actually Alfresco doesn't use port 1099 for RMI, by default it's 50500.
Not that that is necessarily the problem.

I'm experiencing the same problem. My setup is CentOS4.4/jdk 1.5.0_11/alfresco-community-tomcat-2.0.0.tar.gz.
The server is fresh installed. No firewall, no VPN. Only Sendmail and SSH running.

Any clue?

I keep getting that over and over on fresh installed CentOS servers with alfresco-2.0-community-tomcat.tar.gz.

I've tried all the suggestions on this thread, but it's still not working. As I said, I don't have any VPN nor firewall installed.
The only network servers running are Sendmail and SSH.

At this point I'm completely stuck with Alfresco. I've tried with different versions of CentOS and JDK
with different configurations without any luck.

Any help would be really appreciated.
