Alfresco 4.2.e

I'm been trying to get the Edit Online function working in 4.2.e but not having much success so far.

I've been reading a bunch of posts regarding this mostly it seems from back in 3.x versions and it's unclear what is needed to get this working with 4.2.e.

We are using MS Office 2010.  When I go into the documentLibrary of a site and click More dropdown on a particular document I can see it has Edit Online and Edit Offline.  When I first clicked on Edit Online the browser put up a message saying MS Office was requesting additional permissions.  I selected Always Run from This Site.  So I tried clicking on Edit Online again after granting permissions and it shows an error message: Could not start MS Office.

In 4.2.e do you still need some plugin to make Edit Online work?  I did not install any plugin yet.

Also, by company policy, Upload Center is disabled in MS Office 2010.  Does this present any problem?

Thanks.

Alfresco 4.2.e and MS Office 2010

Problem description: We have a brand new installation of Alfresco. I log into Share using the Chrome browser. I select "Edit Online" for a Word document and I am able to edit the file in MS Word. I save the file and it appears to be updated in Alfresco. However if I try to use "Edit Online" a second time on the same file I get the message "Could not start MS Office" and can't edit the file. The only way I've found to resolve the problem is to close and open the browser. This allows me to edit it again but only once, just like the first time.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

I have exactly the same issue with chrome and Internet Explore. If I open a document and click "Edit Online" It opens up fine and I am amble to save it. If I do this the 2nd time I get the error message "Could not start MS Office"
If i close the browser and open it again then it opens up fine the first time and get the same error on the 2nd attempt. This is happening to all my users.
Please assist.

Thanks

@wizzard2

What version of IE are you using?

There are compatibility issues with IE 11.

Hi Thanks for your response.

Its happening on IE 9,10 and 11. With firefox and Chrome on the same machine it works fine.

Additionally its noted that on the first attempt to open the document(when it opens successfully) it connects to the "sharepoint" on the default port 7070.
When you close the document and open it up again you get the error "Could not start MS Office" and when looking at the connections you can see the machine doesnt even establish a connection on port 7070
This happens on Windows 7 and Win8.1

You may want to check out kb2726997 that could possible fix this issue. Tested on a few machines and its working.
