Emailing Space Users - Discussions & Workflow

We currently have the free version of Alfresco. I have been asked as to whether it is possible for a user to upload content, start a workflow and for an email notification to be sent automatically to those users to advise to review the content.

Also, I think this one is unliklely to be possible but is it possible for content to be added and then a user to initiate a discussion and then automatically invite space users to add comments?

I appreciate that the free version may not give full functionality.

Yes, you can do all those things.
For sending mail you need to setup the email server by setting the properties related to that in property file and you are good to go.
Although I have not tried your second user case but mostly it should be possible even in the community version.

Are you aware of how I can find instructions on how to set up the email server and amend the property file?

I have been searching the forums on my second case but will keep looking. It does not seem obvious how to do this in the community version?
