Email in WCM workflows

I've read some old posts http://forums.alfresco.com/en/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=24049 and https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-1951 but I'm not sure that they are up to date. So I'm asking anyway, is it possible to get OOTB an email notification (task reviewer) after submitting content to the staging area? Or do I have to modify the submit_processdefinition.xml file? Or any other easier way in 3.2r2?

Copy the submit_processdefinition.xml workflow and create your own with email functionality at the required task / transition.
